      Still burned, March 18, 2007

My 5 year old son is allergic to something in sunscreen (haven’t figured out what yet). The dermatologist recommended this product for us to try. My son still broke out from it, but what was most discouraging was that it didn’t seem to protect him from burning. We were in Mexico and even though I reapplied the vanicream during the day, he still was burning. I finally had to switch to another lotion for the morning when the sun was strongest. I would use the vanicream for later in the afternoon when the sun was weaker. The nice thing about this product was that unlike most oxide formulas, my child did not have a white “glow” (vanicream was clear) and the vanicream was easier to wash off in the bath. The other oxide products were like slathering your child in desitin (it doesn’t come off!) Just beware that you will have to reapply this product quite often and even then it may not protect you from extreme sun.

Use Vanicream products everyday. You have to let the sunscrean sink in, becasue after application you look like a clown. But, great stuff!

This review is from: Vanicream Sunscreen, Sensitive Skin, SPF 30, 4-Ounce, (Misc.)

I have eczema and have struggled with beauty products my entire life. Most recently, I have started experiencing severe reactions to sunscreen, but only on my face. My allergist recommended that I purchase Vanicream sunscreen, so off to the pharmacy I went. It was hard to find, and it was over $20 a bottle. On Amazon, however, it was nearly half that price, and with my Prime membership, shipped free.

The product is incredible, but does have some drawbacks. It is rather thick, and rubbing it into my skin takes a little time. Once rubbed in, it does leave a little bit of a shine to my skin – it doesn’t feel greasy, just shines. Although applying it can take some time and it does leave a little shine, it is worth it. I have not had a reaction at all this summer!
